Copyright, sources and takedown

This page describes how PlotRecall works in practice. It deliberately avoids legal conclusions: what we can tell you is what we do, not what a court would make of it.

Version 2026-08-11.1. This wording is a draft written to describe how PlotRecall actually works. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer in any jurisdiction, and PlotRecall claims no statutory compliance on the strength of it.

How PlotRecall produces content

  • Memory summaries are written by PlotRecall in its own words as compressed factual reference.
  • No screenplay, script page or production document is reproduced.
  • No subtitle file or subtitle text is copied.
  • No dialogue passage is quoted.
  • No song lyric is reproduced.
  • Nothing published is intended to work as a scene-by-scene transcript or a substitute for watching the work.
  • No screenshot, still, clip, poster or promotional asset is used without rights clearance under the M20 media rights process.
  • Where imagery cannot be cleared, PlotRecall renders its own original cover artwork instead.
  • Direct-work evidence records a reviewer's factual observation of a scene. It never stores the footage, the frame or the dialogue.
  • Sources are read to verify a claim. Their prose is not copied into PlotRecall text.

What we do not claim

We do not claim that our writing is covered by fair use or fair dealing, we do not claim that copyright cannot apply to summaries, we do not claim that every name or mark used here is licensed to us, and we do not claim any statutory safe-harbour status or certification. Those are legal conclusions, and we are not in a position to assert them.

Trademarks

Title names, character names and studio names are used descriptively to identify the works discussed. All trademarks remain the property of their owners, and no brand logo or franchise title treatment is reproduced unless it has been cleared through the media rights process.

Provenance

Every record in our knowledge base stores where it came from, who verified it and what state it is in. Anything drafted with machine assistance must be verified by a person before it can be published — see editorial standards.

Raising a notice

To act on a notice we need, at minimum:

  • the PlotRecall page or asset you are complaining about;
  • the work or material you say it infringes;
  • your relationship to that work — owner, exclusive licensee, or authorised agent;
  • what the problem is, in your own words;
  • anything that supports the claim, such as a registration or a licence reference;
  • a contact address we can reply to.

Please send only what the claim requires. We do not need identity documents, and you should not include personal data beyond a contact address.

How a notice is handled

A notice becomes a case. It is triaged, and where the complaint is credible and the material is media or a specific claim, that item may be withheld from public view while the case is open. Rights and editorial review then reach a decision, the case is resolved with a reason, and every step is recorded in an audit trail. Nothing is removed or restored automatically, and a submission never edits a published page by itself.

Corrections are separate

A factual mistake is not a copyright complaint. If a credit, plot point, relationship or stopping point is wrong, use corrections instead — it reaches an editorial reviewer rather than a rights queue.

Independence

PlotRecall is an independent entertainment memory and discovery service. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any studio, producer, distributor, performer, streaming service or other rightsholder unless that is expressly stated on the page where it applies. Film and series titles, character names, trademarks and other third-party intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners.
